What camera do you use?

Most of the photos here were taken with an iPhone 8+. Others were taken with various cameras. My main ‘other’ camera these days is a Sony RX10 with a 24-600mm zoom lens. Other cameras I have used include a Panasonic LX100 and a Canon G9 & G16.

Are your photos ‘Photoshopped’?

Absolutely. I use two photo programs at present. The first, my favorite, is the free Snapseed from Google. It can only be used on an iPhone though. On my PC I use ACDSee Pro 2019.

What’s your favorite photo?

I have many that I love, but I think my favorite (at least at this moment) is the photo of the ‘Shrek’ balloon at the Macy’s Day Parade in the NYC gallery (under ‘cities’ in the main navigation.

How do you decide between B&W and color?

This is simple. If color adds value to the photo (and it does a lot of the time) I go with color. Other than that, it’s B&W. I prefer B&W.

What’s is one tip you can give concerning photography?

Pay attention to composition. Think about where the viewer’s eyes will move to as they look at the photo. Use the ‘rule of thirds’ when appropriate. Have the horizon in the bottom or top third of the photo. Position the main subject in the right thrid or left third. Use lines, roads, tree branches, etc. to ‘point’ to the main subject. Often a ‘slight’ vignette (darkening around the exterior of the photo) will lead the viewer’s eyes to the main subject and separate the photo from the ‘rest of the world’.

Can I use these photos off your site?

It depends what you want to use them for. If it’s just for your own personal use, sure. If you are going to publish them anywhere, please get in touch with me (You can use the ‘contact’ form in the bottom navigation). All the photos on this site are Copyrighted. Also, the photos here are not full size. At some point I will be selling prints, puzzles, T-shirts, etc.
